Prepare for Retirement with CFA’s Webinars November 16 & 17

Thinking about retirement?

This fall term, we will host two CFA Retirement Webinars, presented by Jonathan Karpf, CFA Retirement Specialist.

Each of these two-and-a-half hour webinars will cover:

• The ins and outs of your CalPERS pension, including the seven distinct retirement options, survivors’ benefit, how to retain subsidized medical and dental benefits for life, FERP and PRTB (Pre-Retirement Reduction in Time Base)
• Social Security
• Medicare

We know pension and retirement systems are important for our retirees and it’s why CFA members and member leaders continue our advocacy despite pushback from management and pension boards. New research from UC Berkeley Labor Center highlights the importance of this advocacy, finding that public pension systems play a massive role in retirement security for every California community, particularly Black and Latinx communities.

The report found that: “Pensions reduce retiree poverty and near-poverty across race, sex, and educational attainment. The anti-poverty impact of pensions is largest for Black and Latino retirees, as well as for retirees without a four-year college degree.”
