CFA Statement After Insurrection by Domestic Terrorists at the Capitol
SACRAMENTO – The California Faculty Association (CFA) is sickened by the attacks on the U.S. Capitol today by insurrectionists.
The current administration continues to provoke violence, spread lies and conspiracy theories, and undermine our democratic processes.
The administration’s inflammatory rhetoric and baseless objections to the result of a free and fair election have led to death and violence. In fact, this attack on democracy was not taken seriously by federal police officers who placated mostly white domestic terrorists to overtake the Capitol because of lies from this administration. Those same officers brought armed vehicles and militarized presence to Washington, D.C. this summer to peaceful protests in response to the murder of George Floyd from mostly Black, Latinx, and Native American and Indigenous Peoples.
Inauguration Day on January 20 cannot come soon enough when we will have a new administration – led by President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris, and a Democratic majority in the Senate and House. CFA celebrates the activists who worked to get out the vote and ensured the voice of the electorate in Georgia, who are sending Senators-elect Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff to Washington, D.C.
We look forward to working with our elected leaders to strengthen our democracy, push for anti-racism and social justice reforms, and better serve the California State University and California.
