Registration is open for Equity Conference
CFA’s Equity Conference 2024, “Waves of Resistance: Merging Waters as Pathways to Justice and Healing,” will be held virtually from March 13 to 16. Registration is now open. When registering, please indicate whether any Zoom accommodations are needed.
The Equity Conference is a project of the Council for Racial & Social Justice and an opportunity for CFA members to connect for co-liberation.
CFA Disability Caucus Chair Leslie Bryan is excited to invite members to this year’s gathering.
“The conference’s focus of solidarity and healing through connectedness and collaboration is in my opinion, timely and needed.
“The conference will provide four days to refresh our minds and bodies, have a bit of fun, and move towards collective healing through connectiveness.
“The dancer in me is excited to moderate the webinar for Brandon Kazen-Maddox, an ASL artist, director, choreographer, dancer and filmmaker.
“Kazen-Maddox multi-disciplinary work focuses on inclusive communication using their hands as storytellers. Their company, ‘Up Until Now Collective,’ uses art to focus on ‘intimacy, empathy and connection’.
“Kazen-Maddox is a strong advocate for deaf artists stating that when artist have everything they need they can shine on stage. The same is true for our CSU faculty, especially those who may need accommodations within their work environment. When the faculty have everything they need, they too can shine in the classroom. I look forward to understanding how inclusivity, empathy and connections in the arts can be applied to the same in our own work.
“I see this conference as a catalyst for a renewed sense of solidarity as we move towards building a more inclusive faculty community which leads to a stronger union.
I encourage all those who see themselves as part of this conversation to register for the Equity Conference and attend Kazen-Maddox webinar on Wednesday, March 13, 2024 from 3:30 – 5 p.m..”
As Bryan highlighted, this year’s conference will focus on solidarity and healing through connectedness and collaboration. It will highlight the benefits and challenges of anti-racism and social justice liberation and collaboration for the university community and beyond. The themes for the Equity Conference are:
- Collaborating for the Common Good: Trouble the Water
- Care and Healing: Ebb and Flow
- Living Joyously and Free: Jubilee
Registration is now open. When registering, please indicate whether any Zoom accommodations are needed. For the full conference narrative and information about and videos from past Equity Conferences, please visit the conference website.
