SQE Demands No Police On CSU Campuses
On May Day, CSU Students for Quality Education (SQE) took to Sacramento State and the Los Angeles Historic Park to demand the CSU system divest from campus policing and reinvest in marginalized students’ well-being.
Student organizers hosted car caravan protests in Northern California and Southern California in support of their ongoing No Harm, Disarm campaign. This happened as students’ requests at Board of Trustee meetings have gone ignored by Chancellor Joseph I. Castro, the CSU Board of Trustees, and 23 campus administrations.
SQE’s campaign also secured a victory on Saturday as the Cal State Student Association (CSSA) passed SQE’s priority agenda item, which would reimagine unarmed community-led public safety on CSU campuses. This is now a full-CSU student-led campus initiative to seek divestment of police on CSU campuses.
