After splitting off 20 years ago, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), has reaffiliated with the American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO) to further empower workers in our nation.

As an affiliate of SEIU, CFA will benefit significantly from the strength of these two unions coming together.

This historic reunification comes at a crucial time, as the labor movement seeks to revitalize its influence in a politically challenging landscape.

“This reunification is a testament to why solidarity and working together matters. When we come together as one movement, despite the differences we may have, we realize all the good we can accomplish for our diverse working-class body,” said Dave Colnic, CFA Associate Vice President, North, and CSU Stanislaus professor.

This move will add two million new members to AFL-CIO, the nation’s largest labor federation, which will now represent a coalition of 15 million workers.

By uniting teachers, healthcare workers, janitors, food service employees, and other workers across industries, we will strengthen our advocacy for fair wages, better benefits, and job security. We will be able to make stronger advances in legislative reforms and curb anti-worker practices.

This is a pivotal moment for labor, and CFA members are ready to come together with our union siblings to face the political obstacles ahead.
