Supporting Lecturer Rights

The CFA Council of Lecturers supports and promotes lecturer rights through advocacy, outreach, and organizing. The Council is composed of lecturer representatives from the CFA chapters on all 23 CSU campuses.

Lecturers – faculty members with full- or part-time temporary appointments – make up more than half of the faculty in the California State University system.

Our relationship with the CSU administration is governed by the Collective Bargaining Agreement, in particular Articles 12 (Appointment), 15 (Evaluation), and 32 (Benefits).

We have summarized and annotated these articles and much else in the Lecturers’ Handbook, which gives an overview of lecturer rights and benefits.

The Council of Lecturers, comprised of elected Lecturers’ Representatives from each campus, has increasingly become involved in the national and international movements of contingent academic labor.

Together, we can make the necessary changes for a fairer work environment for our lecturers.
