Your Membership Strengthens Us All
We are a union of 29,000 professors, lecturers, librarians, counselors, and coaches who teach and provide services to the California State University system’s 485,000 students. In classrooms and other spaces on the 23 CSU campuses, CFA members work hard to teach our students the critical-thinking skills, the technical know-how, and the cultural insights they need to be thoughtful, productive, and artistic participants in our society.
We help to prepare California’s teachers, nurses, engineers, local and state officials, journalists, filmmakers, and countless others who come through the CSU for an education. The CSU is the largest four-year university system in the United States. By original design, it exists to provide an opportunity for everyone seeking higher education.
As a union that advocates for that ideal, CFA stands for:
- Quality education for our students
- Fairness for those of us who earn our living as teachers
- Policies that ensure access to higher education
We invite you to join us to protect and improve one of the greatest university systems in the world. Join us to advocate for the CSU at the California State Legislature and in all public arenas. If you are a CSU faculty member, please join CFA. Your membership strengthens us all.
CFA is the exclusive collective bargaining representative for the California State University faculty. In that role, CFA negotiates a contract with the CSU administration for the faculty, promotes academic freedom, upholds faculty rights, delivers financial protection for faculty, and promotes faculty participation in the governance of the CSU and of CFA.
CFA is affiliated with Service Employees International Union (SEIU Local 1983) and the American Association of University Professors (AAUP).
