CFA Applauds Governor, Legislature for Extending COVID-19 Leave
Much needed relief for faculty stricken with COVID-19 is again on the way after CFA and numerous other unions advocated for this renewal.
After passing through the legislature on Monday, Governor Newsom signed the new bill Wednesday, SB 114, requiring businesses with at least 26 employees to provide up to 80 hours of COVID-19 sick leave. This is retroactive from January 1 and lasts until the end of September.
Like with SB 95 last year, some of these hours can be used to care for a family member who tests positive for COVID-19 or a child whose school or childcare faculty closes for COVID-19 related reasons.
CFA member leaders thank Governor Newsom and state lawmakers who understood the continued strain COVID-19 has had on our faculty and our families, allowing us to take COVID-19 related leave, instead of burning through vacation and sick leave.
