Disaster Relief Available to Support Members During Wildfires
As California’s wildfire season continues, our minds and hearts are focused on our fellow CSU colleagues and CFA siblings across the state affected by these fires, smoke, and air quality issues.
The Disaster Relief Fund provides limited financial resources to support CFA members who have experienced hardship as a result of disasters such as fires, floods, and earthquakes. The goal of this fund is not to replace insurance or governmental assistance, but to provide a supplemental reimbursement for those unusual costs which often stretch our budgets.
“The Disaster Relief Fund is purposely set aside to help our members,” said Vang Vang, CFA Treasurer and Fresno State librarian. “We are a union of members, but we are people first and foremost with families and responsibilities. This fund is open to all our members no matter the time of the year. If you need it, just apply. It’s not much but it will help with the basic necessaries like food, shelter and medical care. Sometimes, that’s enough.”
Members can find assistance and eligibility details on CFA’s Disaster Relief Fund and complete the application form. Email questions to membership@calfac.org.
