Gov. Brown’s budget proposal provides initial start-up for Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program

A program aimed at helping California’s private sector employees save for retirement received a needed infusion of start-up funding in Gov. Jerry Brown’s 2017-18 proposed budget last week.

The Secure Choice Retirement Savings Program, spearheaded by SEIU and signed into law last year, establishes a voluntary retirement savings plan for millions of private-sector, home-based and self-employed workers.

State Board of Education appoints CFA officer as content review expert

One of CFA’s most energetic activists was recently appointed to serve as a content review expert for the State Board of Education.

Susan Green, CFA Treasurer and an Associate Professor of Chicano Studies at CSU Chico, was appointed to the post during the State Board of Education’s meeting Jan. 11-12.

As a content review expert, Green will evaluate instructional materials for the 2017 History-Social Science Adoption.

Faculty Rights Tip of the Week: Lecturers & Canceled Classes

Here’s a timely tip for Lecturers who may be assigned to a class that gets canceled in the first few weeks of the term (from Article 12.5):

“… If a class is canceled prior to the third class meeting, the temporary employee shall be paid the portion of the term worked prior to the cancellation.
