November 5 Election voting has begun!!
We are less than four weeks away from Election Day 2024 and ballots are arriving in mailboxes this week.
Check out our voting resource page with links to register to vote, check your registration status, volunteer for campaigns, pledge to vote, as well as view state legislator endorsements.
“Voting is by no means the only way we must engage politically and build power, but it is critical for expanding funding for public education and public goods, for guaranteeing the rights of our members, our students, and our communities, and is a powerful way to activate and empower people who are unused to exercising their agency in the political realm,” said Juan Lamata, CFA Los Angeles Political Action Chair and CSU Los Angeles Assistant Professor. “Voting is a critical tool in our toolbox for building power, turning the CSUs into People’s Universities, and turning the page to a better tomorrow.”
Many of the headlines and memes heading into Election Day focus on national candidates and issues. Local elections are just as important – and many are decided by a handful of votes. This is our chance to help elect state representatives, councilmembers, school board trustees, and more who will strengthen and protect workers’ rights; who will stop the banning of books telling Black, brown, Native, LGBTQIA+, and others’ stories; who will defend our academic freedom and freedom of speech rights; who will improve and increase access to mental health services for all; and who will uplift and prioritize marginalized communities that for far too long have been denied their fair share of resources and funding due to racism, colonialism, and other systemic oppression.
Make sure you vote this year and remember to remind your fellow CFA members, your family, friends, neighbors, your colleagues, and students to vote, too.
