Solidarity with Immigrant Communities
Our union has historically been a champion of equity, access, and affordability in higher education, and CFA members have passionately defended the rights of immigrant students, staff, faculty and their families. As the new presidential administration takes office, we are unwavering in our commitment to ensure our campuses are safe and welcoming learning and working spaces for all our communities regardless of immigration status.
Our commitment to these protections was reaffirmed in a strong statement written by our Immigration Task Force before the winter break. You can read the full statement here.
We recognize the undeniable fear of our students, and this is why we want to make sure everyone knows that under our U.S. Constitution, all students have a right to receive an education without discrimination regardless of their immigration status and the right to attend campuses which are safe, secure, and peaceful.
In the coming weeks and months, we will continue to work with our legislative leaders to protect the rights, safety, and well-being of our immigrant communities as we did during Trump’s first administration.
We will also be working with our CSU sibling unions, and SEIU CA, SEIU International, AAUP and AFT to protect our students, staff, faculty and their communities.
Lastly and most importantly, we want communities most impacted by these threats to know that we are in solidarity with you and together we will resist and reject Trump’s most devastating policies.
